Interpretation
1 In this Act— "the principal Act" means the Pensions and Gratuities (War Service) Act 1947 [title 9 item 39]; "Bermudian", "business gratuity", "overseas service gratuity", "pension", "Second World War" and "vocational gratuity" have the meanings respectively assigned to them by the principal Act; "scheduled operational theatre" means a theatre of naval military or air force operations specified in the Schedule.
2. Service in Korea or Malaya or Kenya
(1) Subject to subsection (2), the principal Act shall be deemed to extend so as to apply and have effect, with necessary modifications, in

relation to a Bermudian who has served, while holding a commission as an officer in, or being a sailor, soldier or airman of, the naval, military or air forces of the United Kingdom or of any Dominion, in any of the
scheduled operational theatres during the periods respectively specified in the Schedule in relation thereto, as though such Bermudian had, at the date of the coming into operation of the principal Act, served during the Second World War and had, as respects such service, been a member of the armed forces liable to general service.
(2) Notwithstanding anything in subsection (1), nothing in this Act shall have effect so as to extend the effect of the principal Act so as to authorize the payment of any overseas service gratuity, business gratuity or vocational gratuity to any person in respect of their service in a
scheduled operational theatre.
(3) No pension shall be payable under the principal Act as extended by this Act in respect of, or arising out of, the service of any person in a scheduled operational theatre unless such service was as an officer holding a commission in, or as a sailor, soldier or airman of, any of the naval, military or air forces of the United Kingdom.

SCHEDULE
Scheduled Operational Theatres Korea, between the second day of July, 1950 and the twenty-seventh day of July, 1953. Malaya, between the sixteenth day of June, 1948 and such day as may, for the purposes of this Act, be declared by the Governor to represent the end of naval, military or air force operations in the theatre. Kenya, between the twenty-first day of October, 1952 and such day as may, for the purposes of this Act, be declared by the Governor to represent the end of naval, military or air force operations in the theatre.
