PROTECTED SPECIES NOTICE OF INTENTION 2022

WHEREAS the Minister responsible for the environment (the “Minister”) deems it expedient that the species of animal set out in the Schedule be classified as endangered in accordance with the criteria set out in the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN) and declared protected species in exercise of the powers conferred by section 5(3) of the Protected Species Act 2003; AND WHEREAS the Minister has examined the best scientific information available on the species of animal set out in the Schedule in exercise of the requirement imposed by section 5(2) of the Protected Species Act 2003; AND WHEREAS the Minister deems it expedient to make an Order declaring the requisite level of protection to the species of animal set out in the Schedule in exercise of the powers conferred by section 5A of the Protected Species Act 2003; NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister responsible for the environment, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 4 and 5(1) of the Protected Species Act 2003, gives the following Notice of Intention to make a Protected Species Order:

1 This Notice may be cited as the Protected Species Notice of Intention 2022.

2. Public representations

(1) Members of the public are invited to make representations to the Minister as to the classification of the protected species set out in the Schedule to this Notice.

(2) Any representations should be sent to Mr. Drew Pettit, Director, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, 169 South Road, Paget Parish DV 06, or by electronic mail to apettit@gov.bm, not later than 30 days after the date on which this Notice is Gazetted.
