Interpretation

1 In this Act— "instalment-purchase agreement" and "hire-purchase agreement" have the meanings respectively assigned to those expressions by the Purchase of Goods by Instalments Act 1943 [title 17 item 30]; "motor car" means a motor car within the meaning of the Motor Car Act 1951 [title 21 item 4].

Application of principal Act with variations

2 The Purchase of Goods by Instalments Act 1943 shall have effect in relation to every instalment-purchase agreement, and every hire-purchase agreement entered into in respect of a motor car—

(a) as though in section 3 (b) of the Purchase of Goods by Instalments Act 1943 there were substituted for the

words "one quarter of the credit price" the words "one half of the credit price"; and

(b) as though in section 3(c) of the Purchase of Goods by Instalments Act 1943 there were substituted for the words "two years" the words "one year".

Citation

5 This Act shall be construed as one with the Purchase of Goods by Instalments Act 1943 and may be cited together with the Purchase of Goods by Instalments Act 1943 as the Purchase of Goods by Instalments Acts 1943 to 1952.
