ROYAL BERMUDA REGIMENT (JUNIOR LEADERS) (OFFICERS) RULES 2017

The Governor, in exercise of the power conferred by section 8 of the Royal Bermuda Regiment (Junior Leaders) Act 2015, makes the following Rules─
Citation
1 These Rules may be cited as the Royal Bermuda Regiment (Junior Leaders) (Officers) Rules 2017.
2. Applicants
(1) The following persons are eligible to apply for appointment as a commissioned officer in the Junior Leaders—
(a) a member or former member of the Royal Bermuda Regiment;
(b) an educator (as defined in Bermuda Educator's Council Act 2002); or
(c) any other person in possession of qualifications ideally suited, in the opinion of the Commanding Officer, for the training of junior leaders.
(2) All applicants must submit a completed application form containing such information as may be required by the Commanding Officer.
Applicants: selection criteria
3 Before the Commanding Officer approves an application, the applicant must attend a selection interview, to be presided over by the Commandant and the Royal Bermuda Regiment Second-in-Command, and must satisfy the following criteria—
(a) pass security vetting conducted by—
(i) the Bermuda Police Service; and

(ii) the Department of Child and Family Services;
(b) be in good physical condition, as evidenced in writing by a medical practitioner, of a standard that would allow the applicant to—
(i) conduct physically challenging activities, and
(ii) lead physically challenging activities;
(c) submit to and successfully pass testing for controlled drugs (as defined in the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972);
(d) be willing to be present for duty on weekends and public holidays, as may be required from time to time;
(e) be willing to attend the Royal Bermuda Regiment recruit camp (unless previously attended or excused by the Commanding Officer);
(f) be willing to undertake additional adult instructor training (locally or overseas);
(g) be willing to attend task-related courses (including training courses and child protection courses) as directed by the Commandant or the Commanding Officer; and
(h) be willing to help junior leaders develop in accordance with the training syllabus.
Commencement
4 These Rules come into operation on 12 June 2017.
