BERMUDA MONETARY AUTHORITY (COMMEMORATIVE COIN SERIES) REGULATIONS 2012

The Minister of Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 13 of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969 and on the recommendation of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, makes the following Regulations:
Short title
1 These Regulations may be cited as the Bermuda Monetary Authority (Commemorative Coin Series) Regulations 2012.
Interpretation
2 In these Regulations— “Authority” means the Bermuda Monetary Authority; and “commemorative coins” means the Bermuda Commemorative Coin Series, issued in accordance with these Regulations.
Issue of commemorative coins
3 The Authority may, in accordance with the specifications set out in these Regulations, issue commemorative coins which shall depict designs and features similar to the birds, fish and frog displayed on currency notes issued under the Bermuda Monetary Authority (Currency Forms and Designs, Etc.) Regulations 2007.
Denomination of commemorative coins
4 The denominations of the commemorative coins shall be as follows—
(a) Coin 1 – one ounce silver - $2;
(b) Coin 2 – one -twentieth ounce gold - $5; and

(c) Coin 3 – cupronickel - $0.25.
Form and design
5 The form and design of the commemorative coins shall be in accordance with the sample coins deposited with the Authority and in particular—
(a) the obverse design of every commemorative coin shall be the portrait by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in profile, together with the inscriptions “BERMUDA”, “ELIZABETH II” and every commemorative coin shall respectively bear the years—
(i) “2011” (on the Bluebird commemorative coin);
(ii) “2012” (on the Blue Marlin commemorative coin);
(iii) “2013” (on the Blue Angel Fish commemorative coin);
(iv) “2014” (on the Whistling Frog commemorative coin);
(v) “2015” (on the Longtail commemorative coin); and
(vi) “2016” (on the Red Cardinal commemorative coin);
(b) the reverse design of every commemorative coin of the series shall respectively depict—
(i) a Bermuda Bluebird (Sialia sialis), perched in a bed of pink frangipani flowers on the Bluebird commemorative coin;
(ii) a Blue Marlin (Makaira nigricans) leaping out of the sea on the Blue Marlin commemorative coin;
(iii) a Blue Angel Fish (Holacanthus bermudensis) shown swimming over brain coral and condylactis anemone on the Blue Angel Fish commemorative coin;
(iv) a Whistling Frog (Eleutherodactylus gossei) sitting on a leaf on the Whistling Frog commemorative coin;
(v) a Bermuda Longtail (Phaethon lepturus catesbyi) coming in to land on the Longtail commemorative coin; and
(vi) a Red Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) perched on a tree branch on the Red Cardinal commemorative coin;
(c) the shape of every commemorative coin shall be round.
Standard weight and composition
6 The standard weight and composition of the commemorative coins, and the amount of tolerance and variation allowed therein shall be as set forth in the Schedule.
