FISHERIES (USE OF FISHING NETS) ORDER 1990
[made under section 5 of the Fisheries Act 1972 [title 25 item 8] and brought into operation on 30 March 1990]

Citation
1 This Order may be cited as the Fisheries (Use of Fishing Nets) Order 1990.
Interpretation
2 In this Order "fishing net" has the meaning assigned to it in the Fisheries Regulations 1972 [title 25 item 8(a)].
3. Prohibition and exceptions
(1) Subject to subparagraph (2), the taking of any fish within the exclusive economic zone and whether within a protected area or otherwise by a fishing net is prohibited other than the taking of any or all of the following:
(a) bait fish, that is to say, herring, "chovies", blue fry, hogmouth fry, rush fry and half beaks or ballyhoo (any fish of the families Clupeidae, Engraulidae, Atherinidae, and Hemiramphidae);
(b) any jacks (Carangidae), except any pompano (Trachinotus goodei);

(c) mackerel (Scombridae);
(d) yellow-tail snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus);
(e) flying fish (Exocoetidae).
(2) The use of nets of any description to take fish of any kind in any or all of the following areas:
(a) Shelly Bay — that body of water enclosed on the Western margin by a line running due South from the Westernmost tip of Bowen Point; and on the Eastern and Northern sides by the shores of Hamilton Island;
(b) Somerset Long Bay — that body of water enclosed by a line running from King's Point, Sandy's Parish to Daniel's Head, Sandy's Parish and the shores of Somerset Island;
(c) Whalebone Bay — that enclosed body of water commonly known as Whalebone Bay, St. George's Parish;
(d) Coot Pond — that enclosed body of water commonly known as Coot Pond, St. George's Parish, is prohibited. [Paragraph 3 amended by 1996:10 effective 11 June 1996]
Revocation
4 The Fisheries (Use of Fish Pots) Order 1977, the Fisheries (Use of Fish Pots)(Argus Bank) Order 1978, the Fisheries (Use of Fish Pots)(Challenger Bank) Order 1981, the Fisheries (Use of Fishing Nets)(South Shore) Order 1986 are revoked.
