BERMUDA STATUTORY INSTRUMENT

GOVERNOR'S ORDERS FOR THE BERMUDA REGIMENT (LONG SERVICE BADGES) 1972
[made under section 165 of the Defence Act 1965 [title 7 item 21] and brought into operation on 21 October 1972]
1 A badge in the form of a stripe or stripes of an inverted chevron type will be granted by the Commanding Officer as a reward for long service and good conduct to men of the regiment below the rank of sergeant.
2 A badge will be granted in accordance with the qualifying service of the recipient as follows:— Number of stripes Qualifying service one: three years two: five years three: seven years four: ten years
3 Qualifying service for the award of a badge under these Orders is service with the Regiment and shall be reckoned from the date of enlistment or, where a man has had a punishment of the nature specified in Order 6 imposed on him, from the date when such punishment was imposed.
4 Qualifying service shall be continuous; provided that a break or breaks in service amounting in aggregate to six months either during the period specified in Order 2 as the qualifying service for the first stripe or during any further period required to be served to qualify for any

additional stripe shall not be regarded as breaking the continuity of such service. For the purposes of this Order the posting of a man to a holding company shall be regarded as a break in service for the duration of such posting.
5 A man who has had a punishment of the nature specified in Order 6 imposed upon him shall forfeit his badge unless the Governor shall otherwise direct.
6 The punishments which shall be relevant for the purposes of Orders 3 and 5 shall be—
(a) the following punishments imposed by the Commanding Officer under section 37(3) of the Defence Act 1965 [title
7 item 21]—
(i) a fine in excess of 7 days pay;
(ii) detention;
(iii) confinement to barracks for any period in excess of seven days;
(iv) reduction to the ranks or lower grade;
(v) severe reprimand;
(b) the following punishments imposed by a court under the Defence Act 1965—
(i) imprisonment (other than as an alternative to paying a fine);
(ii) a fine in excess of 7 days pay.
7 The badge shall be worn at the base of the left sleeve.
