HOTEL KEEPERS' PROTECTION ACT 1930
ARRANGEMENT OF SECTIONS
1 Interpretation

Interpretation
1 In this Act, where not inconsistent with the context,— "hotel" means any inn, tavern, public house, or place trading for profit by way of accommodation for the public for refreshment or lodging; "hotel keeper" means the manager or the assistant manager for the time being of an hotel.
Hotel keeper may refuse to register any person as guest
2 Subject to section 4, any hotel keeper may refuse to register any person as a guest of the hotel of which he is the keeper if he sees fit to do so.

Hotel keeper may refuse to admit any person on premises
3 Subject to section 4, any hotel keeper may refuse to admit any person on the hotel premises of which he is the keeper.
No action may be taken under section 2 or 3 on grounds of race, colour, religion, ethnic or national origin
4 No hotel keeper shall refuse to register any person under the power contained in section 2, or refuse to admit any person under the power contained in section 3, or request any person to leave the hotel premises, by reason of that person's race, colour, religion, or ethnic or national origin and any hotel keeper who so refuses or requests commits an offence against this Act.
Refusal to leave an offence
5 Any person—
(a) who, having been lawfully refused permission to be registered as a guest of an hotel, refuses to leave the hotel premises when requested to do so by the hotel keeper; or
(b) who, having been lawfully refused admission to hotel premises, attempts to enter such premises after being refused admission as aforesaid; or
(c) who, being on such premises and being requested lawfully by the hotel keeper to leave the premises, refuses or fails thereupon to do so, commits an offence against this Act, and may be forthwith expelled from such premises by the hotel keeper or his servant who may use such force as may reasonably be required for that purpose.
Assistance of hotel keeper by police officers
6 It shall be the duty of every police officer on the request of any hotel keeper to assist him or his servant in preventing the admission to the hotel premises of any person refused permission to be registered or requested to leave such premises as aforesaid and to assist such hotel keeper or his servant in expelling from the hotel premises any such person who, on being requested to leave such premises as aforesaid, refuses or fails thereupon to do so; and any such force may be used which may be reasonably required for either of such purposes.
Punishment for offences
7 Where a person commits an offence under this Act: Punishment on summary conviction: imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of $2,880 or both such imprisonment and fine.
