MARINE BOARD (DECLARATION OF SPEED LIMITS FOR BOATS) (MARINERS) NOTICE 2001
The Minister, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 10(1)(a) of the Marine Board Act 1962, gives the following Notice:⎯
Citation
1 This Notice may be cited as the Marine Board (Declaration Of Speed Limits For Boats) (Mariners) Notice 2001.
General speed limit for boats
2 Subject to paragraphs 3, 4 and 5, a person navigating a boat within 100 meters of the shoreline of any of the Islands of Bermuda shall not exceed 5 nautical miles per hour and in any event shall ensure that such boat does not create a wake.
3. Special speed limit for boats along Ferry Reach
(1) Subject to paragraph 3A, for the purpose of Ferry Reach, a person navigating a boat within 100 metres of the shoreline shall not exceed 10 nautical miles per hour and in any event shall ensure that such boat does not create a wake.
(2) In this paragraph "Ferry Reach" means all that area from the airfield landing light pylons close to the Bermuda Biological Station thence westward along the Reach to a line extending from the north side

of the Reach to Little Rogue Island thence to the eastern edge of Rogue Island thence south eastwards to Stone Crusher Corner at Kindley Field Park. [Regulation 3 para (1) amended by BR 33/2002 effective 21 June 2002]
Exemption for island motor boats along Ferry Reach
3A Paragraph 3 does not apply to an island motor boat unless that island motor boat is a power craft, or a personal water craft, which has been rented. [Regulation 3A inserted by BR 33/2002 effective 21 June 2002]
Minister may specify times when paragraph 3 does not apply
4 Paragraph 3 shall not apply at such times as the Minister may by notice published in the Gazette specify.
Speed limit not applicable in certain areas
5 Paragraph 2 does not apply to a person navigating a boat in the following areas⎯
(a) Two Rock Passage;
(b) Head of the Lane Passage;
(c) Town Cut Channel;
(d) Western Hogfish Channel from the Dockyard to the sea except the section West of Mangrove Bay between the Quintons and Gray's Point (also shown as Flora Point on some charts);
(e) the line of islands in Hamilton Harbour from Worlds End Shoal in a south eastwards direction to the north end of Burnt Island, including Worlds End, Spectacle Island and Doctors Islands;
(f) the Head of the Lane Channel;
(g) Pearl Island.

6 The Marine Board (Declaration of Speed Limits for Boats) (Mariners) Notice 1993 is rescinded.
